Just Results – Press Coverage and Thoughts of the Day

 In Press

The launch of the Make Justice Work report – Just Results – into the use of Payment by Results for community sentencing has generated some positive feedback and made a valuable contribution to the debate.

Here is a selection of feedback from some of the participants who attended on the day:

Richard Monkhouse, Deputy Chairman, Magistrates Association
“We want to see a justice system that is effective in reducing offending. This is more likely to happen if there were more events like this where agencies can develop strategies together towards that end, rather than by simply trying to legislate in isolation from each other.”

Heather Munro, Chief Executive, London Probation
“I valued the opportunity to consider in detail how PbR might work as it has felt as if PbR has become an ideology and a mantra. As a commissioner and a provider of services I want to make sure that any PbR scheme allows us to use evidence and innovation and the Just Results event was the first time I felt that this complex issue was properly aired.”

Jacque Mallender, Chief Executive, Matrix Knowledge
“This was a fascinating discussion. There are so many challenges in terms of paucity of data, the risk of “gaming” the outcome metrics, and the risks of the participation by the voluntary sector in the new system. Overcome these and the prize of real and sustainable reductions in offending is there for the taking.”

Professor Carol Hedderman, Professor of Criminology, University of Leicester
“This event was an excellent opportunity to hear from all sides of the debate and to thrash out some of the most important issues PbR raises, including who carries the can when something goes wrong. As the recent G4S OIympic’s fiasco and the Welfare to Work scandal shows there are real risks as well as potential benefits to privatising state functions.”
