Community Sentences
A community sentence is often misunderstood and thought of as ‘community payback’. One of our goals at Make Justice Work is to show that a communtity sentence is more than just payback. What is a Community Sentence?
Community Sentences are intended to give courts greater flexibility when sentencing. Each Sentence is tailored to reflect the seriousness of the crime whilst also taking into account the rehabilitation of the offender.
A Day in the Life of a Community Sentence
Community Sentences are intended to be demanding and onerous which is why some offenders would prefer a short custodial sentence which gets it ‘over and done with’, but which unfortunately has no constructive or rehabilitative elements.
